Our Story 我們的故事

In early 1993, Rev. Wing So, the Senior Pastor of the San Francisco Evangelical Free Church, realized that the Chinese population was growing in Fremont. Since there was no Cantonese-speaking church in the city, Rev. So started a home Bible study in Fremont in April. This group grew from an average of 12 to 30 in a period of 9 months.

On January 2, 1994, after much prayer and discussion, the group decided to commence Sunday Worship. Bridges Community Church, previously known as The Fremont Evangelical Free Church, generously allowed them to use the facility every Sunday afternoon. At this stage, the group was known as the San Francisco Evangelical Free Church – Fremont Chapel. The average Sunday attendance was 41 including 10 children.

On March 15, 1995, the Executive Board of the San Francisco Evangelical Free Church granted the Fremont Chapel, although without a senior pastor, the independent status. The name of the chapel was changed to Fremont Chinese Evangelical Free Church and the supervision of the church was turned over to the Central California District of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA).

In April 1996, during the Annual Conference of the Central California District of the EFCA, the Fremont Chinese Evangelical Free Church was officially accepted into the District as an independent, self-governing church.

In 1996 the Constitution and Bylaws of the church was completed. The application for incorporation was submitted and it was approved in 1997.

On September 2, 2001, the Sunday worship was moved from the afternoon to 10:45 a.m. This move opened the door to minister to a wider population. As the church continued to grow, the second Sunday service at 9:00 am was added in December 2005.
